📝 Weekly Oni Memo #472026-06-01Thank you so much for eagerly awaiting the 2026 release! Thanks to the hard work of the development team, the marketing team, and everyone involved, preparations are progressing smoothly. The entire team shares the same excitement as you! This week’s Oni Memo focuses on the Formidable Foe, Dokyo. Dokyo is a mad scientist obsessed with creating new Genma in an underground laboratory in Kyoto. In fact, she is the only character who speaks in the Kyoto dialect. Unlike other Genma, she possesses an intellectual yet eerie presence, while also exuding a certain allure—making her a truly distinctive character in the game. Another feature we’d like y
📝 Weekly Oni Memo #462026-05-25Ono no Takamura, a real historical person who lived during the Heian period. However, in this game, having donned the Oni gauntlet, he remains alive and active right up to the Edo period in which Musashi and his allies live. Does living for such a long time bring him joy or happiness? Takamura surely has his own thoughts on the matter. The answer to that might be glimpsed within the game. He is a mentor and also a senior master of swordsmanship to Musashi. At times strict, at times a source of strength, he is a ally who teaches him many things. — Director Nihei
📝 Weekly Oni Memo #452026-05-19Ono no Takamura was a real historical figure, but legend has it that he served the Imperial Court by day and descended into the Underworld by night. He is said to have served Enma, the King of Hell. In this title, a certain "something" said to have been used by Takamura to travel to the Underworld will make an appearance. What could it be...? Those of you familiar with Japanese lore might already have a guess! How exactly it will appear remains a secret for now. Let your imagination run wild and stay tuned! — Director Nihei
📝 Weekly Oni Memo #442026-05-11Apologies for sharing details about an event in Japan, but we will be hosting an event at a Capcom-owned store that offers attendees the chance to experience gameplay from the PS5 version of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, as well as enjoy an XR video. The gameplay experience is the same as the one showcased at Gamescom 2025, while the XR video allows viewers to wear a VR headset and watch an intense sword fight between Musashi and Ganryu. I was so overwhelmed by the sheer intensity of it that I actually let out a gasp! We don’t plan to sell the XR video as a product, so while I do hope there may be an opportunity to showcase it at an overseas ev
📝 Weekly Oni Memo #432026-05-07Following on from last week, I’d like to talk a little more about the music. The background music in this game seamlessly blends non‑combat tracks, combat tracks, and special tracks for Formidable Foes to match both the "location" and "Musashi’s state of mind". To ensure it never detracts from the player’s immersion, the music creates a dynamic atmosphere—sometimes quiet, sometimes emotionally charged. The result is a collection of captivating tracks that are a delight to listen to. Development is now entering its final sprint, and we are also preparing the soundtrack so that we can deliver the full charm of these tracks to you. -Director Nih
📝 Weekly Oni Memo #422026-04-27This time, we’d like talk about the "main theme." The main theme for this title, which can be heard in the 4th trailer and elsewhere, depicts Musashi’s journey—from flashbacks of the days he spent with his companions to his inner conflicts, sorrow, pent-up anger, resolve, and growth. The chorus heard throughout the track is also imbued with emotion. When writing the lyrics, I envisioned the inner cries of the Oni clan since it's sung by them. I would be delighted if you listen to the full version as it plays within the game later this year. -Director Nihei
📝 Weekly Oni Memo #412026-04-20This image is captured from the game. It depicts a scene in which Musashi struggles through pouring rain and muddy ground, clashing swords as he fights desperately amidst a sea of blood and mud. Personally, the sheer coolness of sword-fighting scenes in the rain, as depicted in Japanese historical dramas, is deeply etched into my memory, and that influence is clearly reflected in this scene and the gameplay. If you look closely, you’ll notice that Musashi isn’t wearing the Oni Gauntlet here. For more details, you’ll just have to find out when you play the game! —Director: Nihei
📝 Weekly Oni Memo #402026-04-13Today we’d like to introduce one of our formidable foes "Greater Nue". “Nue” is a yōkai from Kyoto folklore known for its distinctive form, a fusion of several beasts: the head of a monkey, the body of a tanuki, the tail of a snake, and the limbs of a tiger. It’s said that its cry resembles that of a Thrush… and you might just hear that sound during your battle with Greater Nue. Legends also claim that the Nue once appeared in “a certain place” in Kyoto. I hope you’ll let your imagination run wild and look forward to facing it in the game! —Director: Nihei

📝 Weekly Oni Memo #382026-03-30We would like to introduce a Genma that appeared in the playable demo at several video game events, the “Oni-kui Mushi.” As for why it has such a menacing name—well, the truth is that this Genma eats demons in Hell. The countless threads extending from its body are, in fact, the transformed hair of the demons it once devoured. It’s quite eerie, isn’t it? It is a classic ambush predator, usually keeping itself hidden while weaving a web to trap and devour its prey. However, Musashi possesses a special ability known as “Oni Vision.” By using this, he can see the form of the Oni-kui Mushi, which is normally invisible. If you find yourself thinki
📝 Weekly Oni Memo #372026-03-30The protagonist of this game, Miyamoto Musashi, is a man who will use anything at his disposal, even his surroundings, to secure victory. When fighting in a traditional Japanese room, he might tear up the tatami mats beneath him and use them to block attacks or hurl at his enemies. Yet despite his willingness to use whatever means are necessary, Musashi believes that relying on the “Power of Oni” is the wrong path and is determined to cast off his gauntlets. At first this may seem contradictory. However, for Musashi, who seeks to master the way of the sword through his own refined strength, his pride will not allow him to depend on the power
📝 Weekly Oni Memo #362026-03-16Thank you all so much for all the positive comments you've shared for last week's Capcom Spotlight. We're glad to see so many of you say you can't wait to know when the game will be released! The whole team is now working on the final stages of development. Please look forward to our next announcement! 👀 This time, we'd like to introduce our Underground Laboratory. This is a research facility built by the Formidable Foe Dokyo, beneath the heart of Kyoto, designed to create new Genmas. We’ve designed this stage with the feel of a traditional Japanese haunted house in mind. The shadows cast on the shoji screens look rather eerie, don’t they? Y
