Space Engineers 2 Dev Diary: June 4, 20262026-06-04VS2.3 – Event Controller Logan “Jakaria” Tyran, Game Team: "When deciding events to implement for SE2’s Event Controller, we looked back at SE1 to see what vehicles/automatons player’s built that typically required scripts or complex solutions to what could just be a simple event. This includes mechs, subgrid wheel controllers, cranes, turrets, etc. I’ve seen some really cool use-cases from our designers already- I implemented the Forward/Back Velocity event with the intention of using it for my own subgrid VTOL ship (to rotate the nacelle approximately in the direction of thrust when hovering), and instead the designer used it to make automa

Space Engineers 2 Dev Diary: May 28, 20262026-05-28“Masters of Motion” - Mechanical Engineering Video Competition Due to the addition of hinge mechanics coming in VS2.3, we’re extending the “Masters of Motion” Mechanical Engineering Video Competition to give creators more time to experiment with the new possibilities in their builds. The new hinges will allow for even more mechanical movement and engineering creativity, opening up new ways to design machines, moving structures, and contraptions. We’re excited to see how participants utilize these new mechanics in their creations. New Deadline for Submissions: Monday, August 31, 2026 – 23:59 UTC Full details: https://2.spaceengineersgame.com/a
Space Engineers 2 Dev Diary: May 21, 20262026-05-21Lighting Improvements I really love the VRAGE3 lighting system – but we are always trying to improve. We want to achieve greater overall realism by properly mastering distance fog, atmospheric scattering, and shadow coloration. Here you can see some of our experiments – creating stronger contrast and elimination of a “whitish specular halo” on foliage. I want to make light and subsurface scattering on vegetation look more vivid and natural. https://blog.marekrosa.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Comparison5.gif https://blog.marekrosa.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Comparison3.gif https://blog.marekrosa.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Comparison1
Space Engineers 2 Dev Diary: May 14, 20262026-05-14We will be sending our May newsletter soon – make sure you are subscribed. You do not want to miss this one 😉 VS 2.3 – Wheels You already know that for VS2.3, we are working on wheels as one of the main features. This is not just “add wheel block and done.” The physics team is implementing a custom friction estimator instead of using the default Havok one. We are also testing new wheel colliders that can behave either like cylinders or spheres – depending on the situation. The reason is terrain. Ramps, slopes, and uneven surfaces can make wheels behave badly if the collider is too simple. So we are testing a hybrid approach and iterating/ref
Space Engineers 2 Dev Diary: May 7, 20262026-05-07A few snippets from our internal build – we have working buttons and soon you will have them too! Here you can see buttons activating the new timer block. https://blog.marekrosa.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/button-block-to-start_stop-timer.gif There’s also an overlay that shows what each button does, so complex control panels are much easier to understand. https://blog.marekrosa.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Button-block-hints.gif And we will be introducing inventory access from any interactive element of a block, not just at conveyor ports. Sometimes ease of use and quality of life override strict in‑game logic, and this is one of those t

Space Engineers 2 Dev Diary: April 23, 20262026-04-23I have to share another amazing creation – something that is already possible right now in VS 2.2! And I have something special for you – can you guess what it is? https://blog.marekrosa.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/timer_block_and_indicators.gif It is the first shot of our new Space Engineers 2 Timer Block in action! We also have groups working for toolbar actions and control in our internal build: https://blog.marekrosa.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Group-Toolbar-Actions-and-Control.gif Final Remote Control block. During its design, we made sure players can immediately recognize which side is forward, so there is no confusion when placin
Space Engineers 2: Classic Survival Update2026-04-21Hello, Engineers! Based on the feedback gathered during the recent Community Feedback Updates, Classic Survival Start is now available directly in the game world creation screen. This means players no longer need to use a mod to access that style of survival experience! More broadly, this update also includes a few general gameplay improvements for all players. The Smelter Block is now part of the initial unlocks, it has been integrated into the FTUE, and we added a map marker to make it easier to find. We also improved the HUD notification for ore collection, which now displays across two lines for better readability. Thank you for helping u
Space Engineers 2 Dev Diary: April 16, 20262026-04-16I’ve been seeing a lot of questions lately asking: “Should I buy Space Engineers 2 right now?” My honest answer is yes. Of course, you could say that’s exactly what a company CEO would say – and you would be right. So instead of only taking my word for it, I’d recommend checking out this video from AndrewmanGaming, who gives a community perspective summary: One of the things that keeps amazing me is how fast Space Engineers 2 is progressing, and how quickly ideas that once felt far away are becoming real and playable. A great example is this Clang Walker, put together by one of our programmers. Yes – this is already possible in VS 2.2 right n
Space Engineers 2 Dev Diary: April 9, 20262026-04-09In the last few days, we released two very quick community feedback updates. We added a world option to disable Super Dampeners, as well as a cockpit option to disable target-based gyro and return to legacy ship steering. We also tweaked the speed particles to make them less obtrusive. These are relatively small changes, but they come directly from your feedback, and I think this kind of fast iteration is very important. At the same time, we are also asking for your feedback on our latest experiments around the early game and starting experiences. We prepared a set of rapid iterations and released them first as mods and test worlds, because t
Space Engineers 2: Community Feedback Update 22026-04-08Hello, Engineers! We are continuing to refine Space Engineers 2 between major updates, and today we have another small community feedback update focused on ship handling and visual clarity. We are adding an optional SE1-style ship rotation by letting you disable Target-based Gyro directly in the Cockpit block. By default, Target-based Gyro remains On, which preserves the current Space Engineers 2 behavior. If you turn it Off, you can return to legacy ship steering on that cockpit. We have also adjusted speed particles to make them less obtrusive. On planets, high-speed feedback is now represented by more subtle smoke, and in space the speed p
Space Engineers 2: Community Feedback Update2026-04-07Hello, Engineers! Your feedback continues to be incredibly valuable to us. We have been closely following your thoughts on ship handling, world settings, and overall game feel, and we want to keep refining these systems together with you in between major updates. We are adding an option to disable Super Dampeners in your worlds for players who want a different flight feel - or for those who prefer finding out their actual speed the traditional way. This new setting is available in Advanced World Settings. By default, Super Dampeners remain On, which preserves the current Space Engineers 2 behavior. When turned Off, ship handling behaves more
Space Engineers 2 Dev Diary: April 2, 20262026-04-02Let’s talk performance. We hear you and we are working around the clock to deliver you as many short-term solutions as possible via our after-release hotfixes. We have already added support for assigning arrow keys in Controls and even gave you the proper BRRRRT. 😛 Performance is something I think about constantly, but right now our main priority is clear – we need to finish the core gameplay systems and keep the game stable. That means reducing crashes, fixing bugs, and making sure everything works together as intended. Without that foundation, optimization doesn’t really matter. We are still improving performance with every Vertical Slice.

Space Engineers 2 Dev Diary: March 26, 20262026-03-26VS2.2 is now live. This is a big milestone for us. Mechanical Blocks, weapons, contracts, economy foundations – many of the systems we’ve been building toward are finally in your hands. It feels great to see them come together and start forming a more complete gameplay loop. Hotfixes are already in full swing, and we’re actively working on improvements and fixes based on your feedback. I want to thank all of the content creators who participated in the preview campaign. The amount and quality of the videos you produced was incredible. Watching your previews, reactions, and experiments with the new systems was both exciting and reassuring for
